Finding fun and entertaining activities for your child this summer can be a challenge! We’ve compiled a list of area camps and care to give you ideas on things to sign them up to do!

Pre-school-12th grade one-stop shop for information on the activities, camps and other programs offered during the summer in our community.

ACADEMIC SUMMER FUN

Barren River Imaginative Museum of Science (BRIMS)

Camp Invention (1st-6th grade)

Summer Rail Camp, June 11, 12. 8:30am-11:30am, Historic Railpark & Train Museum, 270-745-7317, www.historicrailpark.com. ages 5-8. “Dinosaur Rails”. Kids will experience a fossil dig and climb on miniature dinosaurs provided by Dinosaur World, sing songs, play games and make crafts combining kids love of trains and dinosaurs! $20 per child or $30 for 2 or more children in the same household.

Little Scholar’s Summer Camp (ages 3-12)

Summer Camp for Academically Talented Students (6th- 8th grade), WKU. Jun. 10-20. Class offerings in a wide range of topics from humanities to math & science. $1,800 residential (includes all activities, meals, housing), $900 non-residential (includes activities, weekday lunches, dinner and dance on last Thursday). Sunburst Youth Theatre’s Day Camp, June 4-15, Public Theatre of Kentucky, Ages 7-18, $75/week, 270-781-6233, www.facebook.com/ptkbg. Students are divided into groups according to age. Each group functions as an acting troupe. They build their own props, do scenic painting, sound, lighting, costuming and act in a play. While learning about these exciting aspects of theatre, students build self-confidence, learn teamwork, nurture their creativity and of course have tons of fun!

Warren Central High School Lil’ Lady Dragon Player Development Volleyball Camp, July 16-19, ages 9-15. $55 newcomers, $45 returning campers. This camp’s goals are 1) to help each player develop her individual volleyball skills; 2) to learn the game of volleyball; 3) to have fun playing the game; 4) to provide and teach drills that each girl can use on her own to further develop her skills. Camp happy Days is special needs camps for children and adults ages 6-35 with mental, physical, and intellectual disability.  We are a day camp that provides a safe and fun environment for all our participants. We want to make sure that if any participant comes to Camp Happy Days it will be a summer experience that they will never forget. Students ages 10-15 will take part in learning aircraft instruments, engine & aircraft design, use of aeronautical maps, navigation, flight planning, weather, careers, communications, glider competition, practicing take=offs & landings on a flight simulator and the students will actually assist in flying a Cessna 172 with an FAA Certified Flight Instructor. * Financial Aid: Please call Tabbatha Whittinghill, Airport Operations Assistant at  270-842-1101 if you require financial aid in order for your son/daughter to attend aviation camp.   Some assistance may be available. If you would like to sponsor a student who cannot afford camp, send a check for $269 marked ‘scholarship’ to the BG/WC Airport.

CAMP DATES:
Session 1 June 4-8; Session 2 June 11-15; Session 3 June 18-22; Session 4 June 25-29; Session 5 July 2-6 (NO CAMP July 4, Holiday); Session 6 July 9-13; Session 7 July 16-20; Session 8 July 23-27; Session 9 July 30-August 3. Camp activities start at 9am although campers may arrive as early as 7:30am. Camp activities end at 3:30pm however, campers may be picked up until 4:30pm.  COSTS: $125.00 per child, per session. ABOUT CAMP: Camp Big Red has been hosted WKU IM Rec Sports Department for the last 18 years. Camp Big Red is for children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old. Our camp allows campers to experience positive group interactions in a safe and fun environment. Registration for current WKU Faculty/Staff/Students begins April 6, 2012. Registration opens to WKU Alumni and the general public on April 9, 2012.
